SUPPLY CHAIN SUSTAINABILITY
EMISSIONS FROM THE SUPPLY CHAIN ARE 3-5X HIGHER THAN ALL OTHER COMBINED EMISSIONS.
SCOPE 3 EMISSIONS HAVE BEEN THE HARDEST TO TACKLE FOR EVERY ORGANIZATION ON THE NET ZERO JOURNEY.
There are three different types of emissions that bond rating agencies (and soon the CMS Office of Climate Change) look at when rating a health system on its emissions. These are Scope 1 and 2 emissions, which come from the health system itself and the generation of electricity used by the system, and Scope 3 emissions, which come from the supply chain.
We’re discovering that emissions from the supply chain are 3-5x higher than all other emissions combined. They’re the biggest part of your health system’s carbon footprint, but they’re also the hardest to measure.
Simply put, without getting to net zero in the supply chain, there is no achieving net zero in your health system.
WHY SUPPLY CHAIN IS IMPORTANT FOR HEALTH SYSTEMS
Health systems are expected to lead the way to a better future for their patients and communities. And it starts with addressing the supply chain.
The supply chain is the largest source of emissions and the toughest to tackle.
Health systems in group purchasing organizations (GPOs) will need to drive them to make changes.
Change is Possible
Making minor adjustments to the supply chain can significantly reduce emissions.

CLIMATE ACTIONWORKS GUIDES YOUR PATH TO NET ZERO EMISSIONS
We present our research at national meetings, conduct individual onsite presentations and workshops for health systems, and host webinars — all grounded into our constant and neverending efforts to uncover the best practices in emissions reductions.
We complete an in-depth examination of your organization — not only your current emissions but your preparedness for tackling them. We analyze your facilities and interview dozens of your team members to understand the team's knowledge, appetite, and capabilities for reducing emissions. Our extensive process concludes with a full written report, gap analysis, and recommendations for moving forward.
Our team has worked with health systems on many strategic and operational issues for over 25 years. We share our extensive knowledge in a tailored approach for your needs, from leading your teams through workshops and providing toolkits to "at the elbow" support in project management and implementation consulting.
